The Government has noted with concern the burglary that has been reported to have occurred in the Orange Democratic Party offices.
The Government would like to make several things clear:
a) Allegations by ODM Party officials that the Government was involved in the burglary are mere propaganda, untrue and ridiculous at best.
b) It is the duty of Government to ensure no one is harassed or molested. Therefore, to allege that the Government engaged in such behaviour is preposterous.
c) The Government of President Mwai Kibaki is interested in nurturing democracy and fair play and has no desire nor intention to interfere with the running of other parties nor
their membership, as alleged by ODM officials.
d) The Police are investigating the burglary as a criminal offence as per Police Law and Order procedures.
e) The habit of blaming the Government for any problem that befalls opposition parties and members (including accidents by drunk opposition leaders) is a cheap way of seeking media attention and public sympathy. Politicians are encouraged to verify and substantiate their claims before making them public.
f) The Government encourages leadership that stands by truth and does not tell lies. Leaders must be prepared to tell the truth and not lie to Wananchi for political propaganda effect and
g) Media houses and journalists are encouraged and requested NOT to be used to perpetuate propaganda by taking at face value allegations made by opposition politicians against the Government but should, in the spirit of seeking the truth on behalf of the public, grill the politicians on the validity of their statements and seek evidence before running with the stories.
