Nairobi, Nov. 29, 2006 – The Public Service Commission of Kenya will soon launch an on-line job applications system for both new entrants and service officers, Chairman Mr. Titus Gateere has said.
Mr. Gateere, who was speaking in his office when paid a courtesy call by the high commissioner of Singapore to Kenya Prof. Bryan Lee, said that the recruitment process that takes up to ten months manually, would be reduced to three or less.
This automation of the recruitment and selection process will phase out the era of manual application for Public Service jobs and reduce the time taken between the advertisement of vacancies and actual appointment. This would also assist the commission in achieving its commitment as set out in the client service charter.
The Client Service Charter, introduced this financial year in the civil service, is an endeavour by government to improve service delivery. It details clearly the mandate of a particular ministry and the measures being undertaken to address the needs of the customers and stakeholders. It is a requirement in every government ministry.
Embracing best practices
Mr. Gateere said that for purposes of embracing best practices in recruitment and selection information systems in similar organisation, the Commission undertook a benchmarking tour mid this year, which covered India, Malaysia and Singapore to borrow the latest and appropriate technology that would suit the commission’s need.
He further added that the tour was also to take stock of the wide variety of information technology alternative with a view to analysing their application, sustainability and flexibility to the commission.
Prof. Lee said Public Service of Singapore was collaborating with PSCK in matter relating to training adding that they will send scholarships through the Directorate of Personnel Management (DPM) to be dispatched to various ministries for qualified officers.
He called on both government through their institutions of learning Kenya Institute of Administration and the Civil Service College of Singapore to join forces in enhancing the Public Service.
