Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has said Kenyans should not be derailed from their quest for delivery of a new constitution by the current disagreement in the grand coalition government.
Speaking at the Kenya Institute of Administration where he officially opened a two-day induction workshop for the newly appointed members of the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BLCB), Mr. Musyoka said he was raising a red flag especially to leaders to put national interests above their personal interests.
He expressed optimism that the government will overcome the differences and “indeed survive its full term”.
The Vice President reiterated the government’s commitment to the fight against graft, saying unless it is eliminated the vice was to blame for the country’s level of poverty.
Turning to BLCB, Mr. Musyoka urged them to exercise utmost diligence in their operations to ensure that its affairs are conducted in a fair and crime-free environment.
The VP lauded the important role the industry plays in the country’s economy, particularly through revenue generation, job creation, and in tourism.
Mr. Musyoka urged operators in the industry to strive and ensure that public benefits from gaming.
He at the same time called on gaming regulators to effectively facilitate business activities by appropriately reviewing and amending the current legal framework in order to be in tandem with emerging trends in the industry.
The Vice President revealed that a draft National Lottery Bill is being prepared to establish a National Lottery in the country.
“We believe the National Lottery would have greater appeal since it would fund a variety of good causes such as sports and recreation, Health and Education, Arts, Culture and heritage ,reconstruction and development”, VP added.
Mr. Musyoka, therefore, encouraged the regulators to pursue the process of establishing the National Lottery expeditiously by putting all the necessary structures in place.
