LIBYAN LEADER SENDS GOODWILL MESSAGE

President Mwai Kibaki has thanked the Government of Libya for supporting the efforts by the Kenyan Government in assisting those affected by post election violence.

Speaking today at State House Nairobi where he received a goodwill message from Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi, President Kibaki said the Government appreciated the food and medicine the Libyan Government has provided towards assisting those affected by violence.

In this regard, President Kibaki hailed the existing cordial relations between Kenya and Libya.

The message of goodwill was delivered by the Libyan Leader’s special envoy Dr. Ali Abdulsalam Triki who is also Libya’s Secretary of African union Affairs.

In the message, the Libyan Leader once again congratulated President Kibaki following his re-election for a second term.

The President and the Libyan envoy also exchanged views on the African Union and expressed the need for African countries to unite in strengthening the African Union.

Dr. Triki said Libya was saddened by the violence meted on innocent Kenyans and expressed hope that the issue would be resolved peacefully.

The Libyan envoy, however, stressed that the solution to the current situation in Kenya would come from Kenyans themselves.

Present were Foreign Affairs Minister Moses Wetangula and Permanent Secretary Thuita Mwangi.
