The Government will release the performance evaluation results for public agencies for the financial year 2005/6, tomorrow, Friday, 8th December 2006. This is the first time state agencies are being ranked according to their performances after the introduction of performance contracting.
The function, which will be presided over President Mwai Kibaki, will be held at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre amphitheatre and will commence at 10.00a.m.
The Government introduced Performance Contracts in the management of public resources in July 2005. This is part of the reform strategies currently being implemented by the Government, and is aimed at improving accountability, efficiency and transparent utilisation of economic resources.
The program, which is being implemented in all government ministries and in a majority of state corporations, has been a resounding success and several commercial state corporations have recorded unprecedented profits and improvements.
The Exchequer has been the major beneficiary of these reforms. While The Government had originally estimated that it would receive dividends worth Ksh. 849 million, the state corporations managed to deliver a whooping Ksh.2.14 billion, an improvement of over 200 percent.
