The 2005 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results were released this morning by the Education Minister, Prof. George Saitoti at the Jogoo House. He said computerization of selection for national schools had simplified the exercise, hence the inclusion of the provincial schools in the program.
The Minister defended the government’s move to limit entry into top performing secondary schools for pupils from private schools said that selection for provincial secondary schools would kick off immediately and would also be computerized.
The Minister warned of dire consequences to private schools that registered candidates in public institutions. He commended the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for responding to the education needs of the communities by expanding infrastructure in schools.
“It is possible for Kenya to realize its national and international obligations, including education for all by 2015 and the Millennium Development Goals, going by progress we have made towards improving access and retention in schools,” Saitoti reiterated.
In this year's exam, more than 670,000 pupils competed for the top position, with Oduol Fredrick Constance leading the top candidates with 461 marks followed by Nzioka Alfonce who scored 459 marks. In hot pursuit was Maswan Jelimo Bettina who managed 458 marks leading the girls.
